Clare Goodwin’s work explores the domestic space as a site of social conventions, memories and patterns of behaviour. At the centre of the exhibition At the Scale of Living is a platform that functions simultaneously as a stage and an island. It brings together objects from domestic and everyday environments that appear familiar, yet have been assembled into new and estranged constellations.
The stage becomes a place where social relationships, habits and forms of living together are made visible. Goodwin’s works move between familiarity and irritation. She takes objects from interiors, deconstructs them and reassembles them at a one-to-one scale. In doing so, she examines how existing spaces, materials and objects shape our thinking and social behaviour—and how they can be reread and reinterpreted as charged signs.
Fragments of everyday life are condensed into imaginary settings in which domestic forms, memories and culturally shaped systems of order come together.

Clare Goodwin beschäftigt sich in ihrem Werk mit dem häuslichen Raum als Ort gesellschaftlicher Vorstellungen, Erinnerungen und Verhaltensmuster. Im Mittelpunkt der Ausstellung At the Scale of Living steht eine Plattform, die zugleich Bühne und Insel ist. Auf ihr versammeln sich Objekte aus dem Wohn- und Lebensumfeld, die zwar vertraut erscheinen, jedoch zu neuen, verfremdeten Konstellationen zusammengefügt wurden.
Die Bühne wird zu einem Ort, an dem gesellschaftliche Zusammenhänge, Gewohnheiten und Formen des Zusammenlebens sichtbar werden. Goodwins Arbeiten bewegen sich zwischen Vertrautheit und Irritation. Sie greift Objekte aus Innenräumen auf, dekonstruiert sie und setzt sie in Massstab eins zu eins neu zusammen. Dabei befragt sie, wie bestehende Räume, Materialien und Gegenstände unser Denken und unser soziales Verhalten prägen – und wie sie als aufgeladene Zeichen neu gelesen und interpretiert werden können.
Fragmente des Alltags verdichten sich zu imaginären Settings, in denen häusliche Formen, Erinnerungen und kulturell geprägte Ordnungssysteme aufeinandertreffen.
